If you're a laser owner and ever want to make something like a Christmas ornament with text in it, you'll need to know how to connect some text to a shape. Fortunately, that's really easy to do in Illustrator.

Of course you'll start with your shape and your text. Then follow these simple steps:

1. Select the text.
2. Right-click and choose "Create Outlines."
3. Click on Pathfinder - Unite to combine the letters into one shape.
4. Select the text and the shape and click Pathfinder - Unite again.
