GENERAL OVERVIEW:
(Watch the video above as well)

This design can be made with a minimum of 8 layers and pretty much as many additional spacers as you want. I used 3-4 spacers on each of the versions I made for myself.

The spacers are just what they sound like - pieces put in to add space. In layered designs like these, adding space between layers gives more visual depth and separation.

You can put the spacers wherever you like to get the look you are going for. The only spacer I think you "should" use is the one right above the back piece. That spacer gives room for the head of the screws or nails you use to hang it on the wall with. The rest are totally optional.

* The hooks are the only parts that matter when it comes to material thickness. The rest can be done with any you prefer. ALWAYS measure your material first and then adjust the slot sizes in the design prior to cutting if needed.

"Cabin Life" and "Camp Life" are two phrases that are included. You can engrave a family name in the rectangle below the words.

The font I used is "Geared Slab" and can be purchased here (I purchased a commercial license. Get the one that fits your usage):

FILE FORMATS:

  • Ai
  • SVG
  • PDF
  • DXF

MEASUREMENTS:

  • 2 sizes are included: 19” x 10.8” + 10” x 5.7”
  • RESIZING: It can be resized to any size you desire, BUT be sure to not resize the hooks or the slots they go in. Separate those first, resize all of the parts together, then put the slots back where you'd like them and cut the project.
  • The slots are 0.225" wide. You'll adjust the width to fit your material thickness.

MATERIALS I USED:

  • I used 1/8" MDF for all of the main pieces and 1/4" MDF for the spacers.
  • Paint: I use Rustoleum and Krylon Spray Paints
  • I use LocTiteGO2 glue (blue cap) for all of my projects

AMOUNT OF MATERIAL USED:

  • For the 10" x 5.7" version, you can use as few as 3 sheets of 11" x 19". More will be needed depending on how many spacers you choose to use.

  • For the 19" x 10.8" version, you can use as few as 9 sheets of 11" x 19". More will be needed depending on how many spacers you choose to use.
