Retro Record Player Smart Speaker Holder (Echo Dot or Google Home Mini)

1 Review

$9.00

Millions of us have smart speakers like the Echo Dots or Google Home Minis and millions more are getting them for Christmas, so this design is PERFECT for anyone who wants to give their device some personality and pizzazz!

The top of this cute, retro 70s inspired record player comes off revealing a space inside for your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation Echo Dot or your Google Home Mini. The sound goes out (or in) easily through the old school speaker grills on all 4 sides and it makes your formerly boring device a conversation piece!

 OVERVIEW:

Be SURE to watch the videos because I talk through all steps of assembling this project.

Keep all circles that come out of the cutting because they can be used to make the optional riser for smaller speakers like older Dots and the Google Home Mini (see video).

FILE FORMATS:

  • Ai
  • SVG
  • PDF
  • DXF

MEASUREMENTS:

  • 6.75" square x  ~4.25" tall

MATERIALS I USED:

  • 1/4" MDF
  • There are no slots to edit in this design. It will work well with any reasonable variation of 1/4" material. IT IS NOT MADE FOR THINNER MATERIALS LIKE 1/8".
  • There are open sided slots in the design that are made for 0.25" material and slightly thinner materials like 0.22" and 0.23" will still work nicely.
  • We also used a small amount of 1/4" Green Glass Acrylic for things like the bottom feet, under the knobs, etc. I go over this in detail in the videos above.
  • I used several colors of 1/4" translucent acrylic for the coasters like orange, yellow, red, and gray. They all look great! But you can use wood if you like.

  • Montana 94 Spray Paints
  • Gorilla Glue Super Glue Gel

AMOUNT OF MATERIALS USED:

  • 2 1/2 sheets of 11" x 19" MDF including the optional coaster holders on the bottom (see video) or 2 sheets if you skip the coaster holders + 1/3 sheet of whatever material you choose to make the coasters out of.
